things on tuesday
Holy crap. It's Tuesday. And I actually have ten free minutes to blog! I thought I'd better take them, since we are moving on Thursday and who knows when I will have my beloved, the internet, back and time to blog again?
things I'm so over:
- the dentist. I had a healthy relationship with dental work until three years ago, when I was newly living in Las Vegas, and needed a cavity filled. I used my insurance provider list and just randomly picked a dentist, which turned out to be a fatal error. The guy appeared to be about twenty years old and after a hasty application of numbing cream, started drilling away....except OUCH, damn it! I could feel everything and started squirming and squealing. He abruptly apologized and proceeded to inject about a gallon of numbing medication right into the gum. Well, I didn't feel a thing after that for sure. For 12 HOURS. The idiot paralyzed the entire right side of my face, like as in full blown facial sagging, bells palsy kind of paralysis. The worst part? We had dinner at the Hard Rock casino that night with some of Joe's coworkers I had never met before, and I spent the night drooling out of the right side of my mouth and trying desperately not to drop food out of my mouth while eating. It was awful. I went to the dentist today and had to have a filling for the first time since then, and it was all sweaty palms and heart palpitations. I now fear dental work for the first time in my life.
- Sarah Palin and the circus that is the GOP campaign for the presidency, or the vice presidency as the case may be, since that's all anyone seems to care about these days. Oh, John McCain...what happened to you?
- Moving. You think I'd be a pro by now, what with all the cross-country moves and such. And yet, a little twenty mile down the road move has completely taxed my sanity. Could be the whole newborn thing. And the whole city's out of power thing. Or maybe I'm just over moving altogether.
- Mortgage nonsense. After a seamless and perfect mortgage application process, we closed last Friday on our house, with possession set to take place on Monday. We eagerly awaited our keys yesterday...only to find the bank had held the release of funds over a termite inspection report. Our inspection, which took place a MONTH ago, included a termite report, which came back clean. We forwarded that paperwork to our bank, but apparently the mortgage fairy forgot to tell us that Joe and I should have signed the termite report. Even though it reported no termites. And there was no place for a signature. After some yelling and fit-pitching from hubby, they agreed to release the funds anyway if we committed to send the requested report within 10 days. Nonsense!
things I'm digging at the moment:
- Actually getting our home! After a lot of wrangling, hoop jumping, stress and signing our first born away, we finally have our house. We got keys today, and are moving on Thursday. Yippee!
- Caroline's first smiles at seeing our faces this week. Who'd have thought a person could come so undone over the sight of a drooly, gummy grin? It was the most wonderful kind of love I felt for her upon seeing it for the first time.
- Jon Stewart. I couldn't make it through this election without him. Yes, I think I might love him.
- Baby inventions that are currently making my life bearable, as opposed to miserable. These include: a baby bouncer (where Caroline happens to be spending a lot of time sleeping these days since she will ONLY sleep in that damn thing and nothing else, which already makes me feel like a derelict parent...), the Boppy pillow, the Baby Bjorn carrier (the only time I EVER have two hands free...the only down side being trying to eat with the carrier. Caroline has ended up with more crumbs on her head in the past few weeks than I care to admit), and the breast pump, which allows me to liberally partake in taboo indulgences like alcohol and mexican food. I'd have never imagined these possessions would be counted among the most critical in my life. Oh, how the times do change.
- Finding the time to blog :)
